Do you have moments where you are overwhelmed and don’t know what to do?
Do you freeze with indecision because there are so many tasks that you believe need to be done?
Do you have this big dream but you aren’t working on it because you want to solve all the details first?
Oh boy do I! I’ve been spinning lately trying to figure out what my next move with my business is. My mind has been in a tailspin with all the various options I could or should take. And when my mind gets into these tailspins, guess what happens. NOTHING! I don’t make a move forward because I’m caught up in the whirlwind of thoughts and I just spin and spin.
I talked this thru with my coach, Martha Creek, this morning and she gave me some advice that blew my mind so I thought I would share it with you.
Her advice was to simply do whatever is the next sensible step. I was like well no shit, that makes total sense. Such a simple thought but radical to the way I was behaving.
Instead of being frozen by trying to figure out what the future of my business should be, I could just take the next reasonable or sensible step. And then the next one and the next one and on and on.
The planner in me wanted to reject this idea. My mind wanted me to get it all figured out and wrapped up into a nice little package and THEN I’d start working on making it happen.
But Martha opened my eyes to the fact that this is not necessary. When you are overwhelmed with indecision take a breath and take the next sensible step.
So I did. I wrote this blog post. I don’t have all the answers but at least now I’m moving forward vs being stuck in my head trying to work it all out.
If you are overwhelmed and unsure what to do, just take the next sensible step. It’s that simple.
